Funnily enough, one of those “Yank tanks” is actually Canadian, a Pontiac Parisienne, built in Oshawa, Ontario to be exact.
They were exported all over the Commonwealth and also, strangely, the Netherlands. They had the most success abroad in Australia where it was replaced by the Holden Brougham in 1968. It also wasn’t actually a Pontiac, and was really a Chevrolet with a Pontiac front grille, including Chevrolet-sourced engines, similar to the other two Canadian Pontiacs, the Strato Chief and Laurentian.
Funnily enough, on Google Images I found the exact Parisienne that you saw . Small world.

Nice detective work. I knew it was a 64 Poncho, but it didn’t quite look like a Catalina or a Bonneville to me.
From what I’ve read, I’m not sure the body panels would swap with a Catalina either - despite looking very similar.
I presume this car is on the X frame - which would be true for a 64 Chevy, but not a 64 US Pontiac.

Yes, unusual cars will do that for you!
Recently I googled my own car under its original UK plates and found it.
